The word coating means literally a thin layer or, when used as a verb, the application process of covering surfaces (usually referred to as substrates). Coating is used for changing the properties or enhancing the decorative appearance of an object as well as to create a protective barrier against deterioration.

Coating types; industrial definitions

Each coating consists of its own mix with sometimes two or more resins, a special curing agent, pigment additives and solvents. This results in largely different properties for each coating. That is why there are many different coating solutions available.

Industry standards define three types of coatings;

3. inorganic

However, most coatings contain a combination of organic, synthetic and inorganic materials, including solvents, pigments, fillers and extenders. These additives improve the application and curing process.

Especially fire retardant, intumescent and fireproof coatings have to meet strict regulations. Therefor, Taipei (and Taiwan) businesses are by law required to use approved applicators to ensure regulatory compliance with Taiwan standards.
